Monel 400 Characteristics

Monel 400 is the corrosion-resistant alloy which have maximum amount, the most widely used, and comprehensive performance excellent. This alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas medium, also has excellent corrosion resistance in hot concentrated alkaline. Meanwhile, it can also resistant the corrosion of neutral solutions, water, sea, air, organic compounds etc. An important feature of the alloy is generally not produce stress corrosion cracking, has good cutting performance.

Corrosion resistance

Monel 400 alloy has a very good corrosion resistance in fluoride gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives. And it has better corrosion resistance than copper in the sea water. Acid medium: Monel 400 are corrosion resistant in concentration of less than 85% of sulfuric acid. Monel 400 is one of the very few and most important material in resistant to hydrofluoric acid.

Water erosion: in most cases of water erosion, Monel 400 alloy not only excellent corrosion resistance and pitting corrosion, stress corrosion, also rarely found, the corrosion rate less than 0.025mm/a.

High temperature corrosion: Monel 400 continuous work in the highest air temperature is generally about 600 ℃, in high temperature steam, the corrosion rate less than 0.026mm/a. Ammonia: As Monel 400 alloy have high content of nickel, it can be resistant to anhydrous ammonia below 585 ℃ under the conditions of corrosion and ammonification.

Monel 400 Application:

Monel 400 alloy is a versatile material in many industrial applications:
1. seamless pipes, steam pipes in power factory;
2. Seawater switch and evaporator;
3. Sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid
4. crude distillation
5. Equipment used in water pump shaft and propeller
6 nuclear industry for the manufacture of uranium enrichment and isotope separation equipment
7 manufacturing the pump and valve when producing hydrochloric acid equipment

Monel 400 (UNS: N04400, EN: 2.4360)

It is one of the important material of resistant to hydrofluoric acid. The alloy in fluoride gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives have a very good corrosion resistance. At the same time it is more corrosion resistance than the copper-based alloy in sea water.

Application: Power plant, seamless pipes, steam pipes, switches and evaporator water, sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, crude oil distillation equipment used in water pump shaft and propeller, the nuclear industry for the manufacture of uranium enrichment and isotope separation equipment, manufacturing equipment, the use of hydrochloric acid pumps and valves.

It is a deformable processing nickel - copper-nickel alloy, has good resistance to seawater corrosion and chemical resistance, resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking strength. This alloy is one of the few able to use one of the fluoride in the alloy. Hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas in the medium has good corrosion resistance to oxide stress fission, such as water, salt water environment.
In the medium concentration of alkaline and salt solutions, Monel 400 has very good corrosion resistance.

The alloy is used in weak acid, such as sulfur, hydrogen fluoride environment in the cold of the Alkaline environment.

Have good mechanical properties from minus to 550 ℃ high temperature, easy to weld.
Application areas: marine heat exchangers, desalination equipment, salt production equipment, marine and chemical processing equipment, propeller shaft and water pump, gasoline and water tanks etc.
